Beyond Culture: Towards a Phenomenological Foundation of Anthropology

Anthropology has challenged the universality of the divide between nature and culture, arguing that it reflects a particular modern ontology rather than a neutral framework for understanding collective life. This challenge has major consequences for philosophy and the human sciences.

COSMOS asks how phenomenology can account for different modes of collective existence without reducing them to representations of one pre-given nature. It draws on Husserl, Merleau-Ponty, and Schütz to develop an account of embodiment, intersubjectivity, and the common world capable of incorporating anthropology’s radical insight into plurality.

Beyond Nature: Foundations of a Phenomenological Archaeology

This project investigated the limits of naturalism and the phenomenological conditions under which nature becomes meaningful. It combined research at the University of Wuppertal and the Husserl Archives Leuven and provided the groundwork for my current engagement with anthropology.
